The Beauty Of Waiting

This is the 43rd entry in my song-inspired series of poems, and I really hope you enjoy reading through this one! This song actually came up at a pretty coincidentally suitable time – I’m going on holiday soon and I think the anticipation of that blended with the inspiration from this week’s song (Mexico, by Danny Worsnop, which I’ve embedded below as always!) quite well.

First Poem In This Series: To Witness, To Behold, inspired by ‘Sowing The Seeds Of Love’ by Tears For Fears

Previous Poem In This Series: Scrolling Back, inspired by ’10 for 10′ by Magnolia Park

The Beauty Of Waiting

Escape is at the edge of your eyeline,
always, waiting, as the brain wonders
whether it’s the first sun-drenched streak
of a day that could be called summer,
or the brushing touch of enchanted imagination.

In, out. Boots against carpet, concrete,
carpet, concrete; perhaps, today,
they stray onto the grass, leather
dancing with the dew drops–blink,
carpet, concrete, did you move at all?

Today, you follow the steps down
and hold out a hand, ritual as routine;
but turn your head, and see how the road
wavers on the horizon, only in periphery–
soon, you’ll breathe the other air,

and for now, the promise is almost as sweet.
