Inescapable Endings

We’ve made it to the twenty-fifth entry in my song-inspired poem series! This one is, I suppose, a sort of fairy tale subversion – but, I can’t lie, as well as the song that inspired it (‘The One’ by Elena Siegman and Kevin Sherwood), I did have Shrek at the forefront of my mind while writing it. Although, as you’ll see, it does take a somewhat darker turn by the end of the poem. In any case, I hope you enjoy reading this one!

Framings of Existence

This week’s poem marks the eighteenth entry in my series of song-inspired poems, and this one flits a little between the sci-fi and fantasy spheres, at least in my mind. Hopefully, you find it to be an interesting combination of some different elements and descriptions!

Retribution By Moonlight

This week I’ve got another song-inspired poem for you to continue the series, and this one was written with ‘She-Wolf’ by Megadeth in mind. I think it’s a nice mix of a bit of fantasy like last week and the more supernatural side of my writing (similar to Twisted Bloodlines), so I hope you enjoy this one!

Where The Gods And Rats Watch

Interestingly, this week’s poem had me thinking back to the fantasy poems I was writing for the blog a little bit ago, because I got into that similar sort of fantasy headspace for this one, which was inspired by ‘115’ by Elena Siegman and Kevin Sherwood (from the Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies soundtrack). As with the other poems, I’ve embedded the song below so you can listen while you read if you’d like to, and I hope you enjoy this one!

The Skulking Guardsman

This week, I have got another fantasy poem for you from the collection we’ve been building up across the past few weeks, but this one dances a little closer to the actual project I’m working on which these poems form some of the world-building for (I don’t actually know whether they will be included in the final project or not yet, as an aside, but I hope you’re enjoying them nevertheless!).

Even Gods Must Sleep

Interestingly, even though I’ve posted quite a few of these fantasy poems now, this one was actually the first that I wrote. I guess that makes it quite special in its own way, and it’s also a little longer than some of the others, but in a sense, it’s the starting point for all of the other poems that I’ve been posting from this collection, week by week, so I hope you enjoy this ‘beginning’!

The Grey Gawker

This week, I’ve got another poem from my slowly unfurling fantasy world for you, and this one lends itself a bit to the mystery that you probably weren’t even considering (if you’ve caught a couple of these) – who is actually writing these poems? Not in the meta sense that I’m the one coming up with them of course, but more of a ‘who is the narrator?’ sort of deal, which I hope you find interesting as you read this week’s poem!

Tombstones & Rosebushes

Remember Spiritside from last week? Well, this is another poem from that same collection that I’ve been working on, within the same fantasy world – and even the same city! I hope that you find this interesting, both as a little slice of a new world and a poem within itself.

Spiritside

Something a little different for you this week! It’s a poem, but it’s specifically within the fantasy genre and is part of a little casual collection I’ve been building up to populate the worldbuilding of a project I’ve been working on. I thought it would be fun to include here on the blog, and I might post a few more in the coming weeks, so here’s the first one!
