It has finally started getting a little bit brighter outside in the mornings and the evenings (i.e., when I’m usually outside) so I think that appreciation for sunlight has been making its way into my writing a little bit. In any case, I hope you enjoy the thirty-sixth entry into my series of song-inspired poems!
First Poem In This Series: To Witness, To Behold, inspired by ‘Sowing The Seeds Of Love’ by Tears For Fears
Previous Poem In This Series: Shadow Of Mine, inspired by ‘Black Hole In My Mind’ by The Lillingtons
Moderation
Perhaps it is a modern disaster,
a sludge-spiral of pixels
hanging in a drooling line
between the glass and the rim
of your eyelid.
But you–you can blink.
You can stretch, and stand,
and your feet can take you
to the window, where you raise
a hand, and pull aside
the curtain.
It’s all out there:
sunlight, birdsong,
the constant buzzing
of human life, muffled
by brick but present.
So you lace up your boots
and grab your coat
off the back of the chair;
and as you step out,
the sludge dries on the carpet.
