Shadow Of Mine

I’ve got another song-inspired poem for you this week! This one was inspired by ‘Black Hole In My Mind’ by The Lillingtons, and it’s a bit of a fun one concerning shadows. I hope you enjoy reading it, and, as ever, I’ve embedded the song below so you can have a listen as well!

First Poem In This Series: To Witness, To Behold, inspired by ‘Sowing The Seeds Of Love’ by Tears For Fears

Previous Poem In This Series: Waking Dreams, inspired by ‘Made Of Stone’ by The Stone Roses

Shadow Of Mine

He’s gone again today;
slipped away, as if
he doesn’t have a job
to be doing
(he does, doubling,
but he is tired
of being a twin
trick of the light–
tired of expanding
and contracting
as the sun wishes)–
today, he robs a bank
and tomorrow, a train;
he has been watching me
play video games
again–
Thursday, he’s flying
wherever he wishes
(he’s realised the benefits
of not being corporeal)
and Friday, he might
start a revolution,
just for fun–
if he can find anyone
who’ll listen for long enough–
he’ll have a rest
on the weekend,
but it’s an early start
on Monday–
he’s busy, after all,
leading a life
I never could–
takes him seconds
to go to places
that take thirty minutes
on the bus.
