Time for a break from the short stories! Get ready for an emotional little poem I wrote called ‘Grey Eyes’, where I experimented with the formatting a little through indenting (completely inspired by my recent studies of Christina Rosetti in college, by the way) and really focused on the placement of the words within the poem. I hope you enjoy it!

Grey Eyes

Iron cage. Cold. Twisted
into the image of an exhausted
home. House. A trap crueller
than any snare, lurking in the
grass. Town. Rural. Isolated.

Love me. Never. Looming
figures with long, suffocating
hands. Claws. Removing
quiet breath from troubled
lungs. Rocks. Silenced.

Grey eyes. Dead. Embracing
dark carpet and tiled floors,
shy. Afraid. Waiting with
tears wetting pale cheeks,
still. Frozen. Hoping.

White car. Safe. Amidst
the chaos of spitting screams,
Dad. Saviour. One bag
packed through hazy vision,
flight. Escape. Freedom.
