I

Although this poem took me a little out of my comfort zone, I’d like to share it here. The Young Writers Initiative‘s Summer Camp got me working on a poem exploring all five senses, and I came up with ‘I’. Not my usual style, but I seem to be saying that a lot these days so who knows what my style really is? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this short little wander through the senses.

I

With the two eyes blessed to me

by some unknown divine, I see

the beauty in the open world,

the rolling plains and dancing girls,

with the taste of liquor on my tongue

so sweet, so sharp, so bitter, so long,

my fingers traipsing through cool silk

and ginger curls, and golden milk,

with burnt caramel caressing my nose

and honeydew, and forget-me-nots,

while the whistle of wind warmly reminds me

I can hear, smell, taste, touch and see.
